THE PLACE OF THE CHURCH IN THE LIFE OF THE VILLAGE

Week by week, on Sundays in St. Helen's Church, Berrick Salome, worship is offered to God by a congregation, mainly of Anglican Christians. However, St Helen's is the community's church, and thus Christians of other faith communities join in this worship or enjoy their own time in the building. In the church and graveyard, the churchgoing community, as part of its mission, hopes to provide the rest of the villagers with a valued place for baptisms, weddings, funerals, memorial services, burials, interments of ashes, and other community moments.
Offered, above all, is a place within the heart of the whole community, always open for quiet reflection and the giving of thanks. In the recent restoration of the fabric of the church and improvement in the care of its surroundings, we show, with hope and confidence, our commitment to the future of this village, its inhabitants and the whole community, and we rejoice in the faith that God is close and lovingly blesses all. All are invited to touch the peace and sheer silence of the presence of God reflected in the beauty of this place, and recognise in their lives the often broken holiness of their beloved createdness.
